If you’re a secondary ELAR teacher who likes to keep up with the latest research, you have probably experienced both excitement and frustration when interacting with Science of Reading content. This research makes intuitive sense to the experienced educator, yet it seems like all of the resources and focus are at the elementary level. How do we bring the benefits of knowledge building to our students in middle and high school?  In this session we will look at the fundamental changes in perspective we must make as secondary educators when it comes to shifting our focus from skill building to knowledge building in our ELAR classrooms. Participants will walk away with tangible strategies for how to incorporate building background knowledge into your already existing curriculum.
