Writing has often been the deprioritized afterthought in non-tested grade levels, and that’s led to a major problem of practice: Unused skills around writing instruction leading to a lack of teacher confidence in the subject matter. With 60% of ELA standards focused on Writing & Language, it’s surprising that writing doesn’t happen more in the classroom. STAAR’s recent redesign has brought writing development back to the forefront, and this session will cover some of the research-based practices that can help move the needle on student performance, strong writing instruction, and overall volume of writing tasks. Free resources for turnkey implementation will be shared for immediate impact in your classrooms and schools.
